Default Benifits of High idle feature???

Can someone give me the reason for activating the high idle feature. I am fixing to put my truck back in the shop for the worst A/C I have ever had. But that's beside the point, just wanting to know about the hign idle. Thanks ahead of time!!

Faster warm up.....

More amperage from your alternator for accessories (i.e. winches).....

If you have a PTO, then you get the extra power for that as well.

Biggest thing for me was the alternator output for the winch.

What was said above plus, keep a/c cooler when sitting still, keeping the engine from wet stacking in cold weather.

The old detriot 2-strokes, when they were idle for a while, wouldn't burn all of the fuel. It would enter the exhast and pour out the stack "wet stacking." Fuel would also dump into the air boxes through the intake ports. The engine would the run off of that fuel causing a run away. When that fuel ran out, it would start pulling oil from the pan around the liners and it would run off that until it finally came apart. When it did this, there was no stopping it.

EDIT: you don't have to worry about that on these engines. One problem of too long idle though is washing down the cylinders causing scoring.

Wet stacking has also been explained to me this way. When an engine is not up to operating temps and in cold ambient outside temps, if left idleing, it will not burn all the fuel that is injected. This fuel can among other things coat the cylinder, rings and valves with carbon that can cause blow by, sticking valves, and cylinder scoring oil dilution ect. There are some things in our owners manual that refer to these problems. They just don't call it wet stacking. I think if our owners manual talks about it, it is an issue with our engine. Raising the idle will create more heat which will help get up to operating temps faster.
