Fuel Pressure question...
Interesting reading on the vp44 here, scroll down to the 4th post. http://dieselram.com/ubb/ultimatebb....;f=34;t=000137
I've been looking at one of these.

I see similar items on all kits ,except for the FASS system, looks to be a electronic fuel pump and some hose. Couldnt you just get a pump from an auto parts store and install it in-line ? Is there a return line for excess pressure? If it pumps TOO MUCH pressure to the Inj. Pump witll there be a problem or will it bypass internally in the pump and return to tank?
You guy's are making me nervous with all of this fuel pump failure stuff. What's up with that FAAS system? Where do you mount it? Where is my current fuel pump? Will I still need to use a fuel filter in the stock location, or does this system eliminate the need for the stock fuel filter?
the FASS is a much better pump than the stock Carter crap DC uses. it is able to supply better flow at higher pressures to ensure the injector pump is not starved of fuel. the VP44 is very suseptable to this. the VE, P7100, and the CP3 pumps will live if the lift pump dies.
the FASS unit, and the walbro unit both mount under the bed, or anywhere you want to put it actualy. the only thing you have to remove is the stock lift pump which is generaly mounted to the back of the fuel filter canister. Does the FASS-I system eliminate the need for the stock fuel filter, it can if you want to remove it, however the FASS-II is only the pump and no filters.
I still have my stock Carter lift pump, it is working pretty good, but I know it will die at some point. Just as Steve said the walbro or fass unit is in my future.

Looking at this picture it looks like the FAAS does have a filter with it. Is there different models or something? Also, it looks kinda big, won't it hang down kinda far from the frame?
Yeah but, if I was to go with the FAAS 1 system, would I eliminate the stock fuel filter? Basicaly why I'm asking is I'm just trying to make maintaining the fule filter an easier job.
In changing my feul filterin my 98.5 ctd I noticed small metal filings in the bottom of my canister, in which I said OH OH, lift pump is going out, caught it in time, installed the Fass, lift pump only, clean and sweet for around $650.00 installed.
