removed the silencer ring today
Mayfair, I've read conflicting stories of the benefit of having the ring in and not having it. I havent noticed any changes to the way the engine runs, just the cool sound. I'm gald you did it in 15, I was sure that u could do it.
I tell u though, removing the cat did do good for the higher end tourqe. At crusing speed, if I hit the gas, there is NOOO downshifting at all, it just grunts and goes. The sound of the exhaust and the turbo combined make me feel all warm and fuzzy,

Ditto. I pulled mine earlier and it does sound better even with stock instake and exhaust.
Pulled mine out today...umm I mean the silencer ring... and didn't notice any difference in sound at all. I have the cat in place but I'm running with no muffler so maybe the loud tail pipe noise is masking it somewhat. I did leave the baffles in the intake tube. Maybe with those removed it would help bring on the whistle?

twotrack,, Im betting money that the baffles have alot to do with it. I'm running an aero turbine and no cat (pretty loud) and I can still hear my turbo whistle over everything. On intake I have the K&N setup.
Looks like I was not alone in pulling mine off, I have a drop in K&N (baffle or director what ever it is still in) .
I'm with Mayfair, I think the truck has a little more get up, It is not that much loader to me, Just a different deeper sound. What do you all think about drilling holes in the stock air box, The new K&N filter has a ton more surface area compared to the stock filter, I thought about drilling some holes all around the air box,

USAFR,
Can the baffles (or whatever they're called) be put back in once they're removed or is it a destroy it to remove it type of thing? I definately want the whistle, just don't wanna permanently hack up my new truck quite yet
