Even if you charge K&N filters right, the cummins will pull the oil out of the filter.

That's what I'm beginning to wonder. My tube was clean, but the fins on the turbo looked kinda dirty. I DID really hafta rub them with a napkin to get anything on it though, so I dunno. The jury is still out I guess.

Mayfair,

If your tube is clean with no oil, dirt or sand near the Turbo inlet then I would say you are good to go. Just make sure you check it often just to be safe and any time you get oil or dust then clean it all up ASAP.

Yeah DB, I'm actually kinda weird about checking the intake tube. I ran a white napkin through it with not one spec of dirt came up on it. It wasn't until I took that same napkn and rubbed it on the fins that something finally came up. I'm not really concerned about it, but it IS something that I'll be keeping my eye on.

What about those intake sock looking things that you seen sometimes? You know, they slip over your aftermarket filter and are see through kinda like a panty. Do they help at all?

Don't know much about them but they do claim it helps. If you can get a look see at one before you buy it then you can see for your self if it is worth the $$. I think if it is a real fine mesh like I have seen in photos then it could help keep some items out of the filter.

I installed AFE stage 2 and pro guard 7 filters (yes bought 2 filters as I'm in some real ugly dirty/dusty/wet roads at least during summer months good to have extra filter at the ready) also purchased the "pre filter" or as Mayfair calls it the "panty". This "panty/pre filter" is used mostly in marine situations as they are meant to keep water out of the "open" filters. They are rated for .005" particulates, I used them before on other truck air filters and although they do produce some restriction on total air flow its not even noticed. Worth it to me to help keep the water(rain/yet roads) out and the added particulate filtering.

I also pulled the silencer ring had a look at the turbo clean as new! mind you only have 50k mi on her. Now if the stealer would only get my truck back to me after they finish palying bumper cars with it, I can get out on the road and grin ear to ear hearing that spinny turbo thing scream!!

Oh yeah, Mayfair, that mega cab they gave me its HUGE!!! I can hear echos its like being in the Grand Canon!! only problem is back seat is a long way back there and with me short arms I can't reach the beer cooler or the pretzels!!

P0073–AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH (TIPM)
For a complete wiring diagram Refer to Section 8W.

When Monitored:
With the ignition on. Battery voltage greater than 10 volts.

Set Condition:
The Ambient Temperature Sensor voltage is greater than 4.98 volts at the PCM for 2.8 seconds. One Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.

Possible Causes
(G31) AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE
(G31) AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
(G930) AAT RETURN CIRCUIT OPEN
AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE


Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING).

Diagnostic Test
1. AAT SENSOR VOLTAGE ABOVE 4.98 VOLTS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: Diagnose any CAN - C Communication DTCs before continuing.

Ignition on, engine not running.
With a scan tool, read the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor voltage.

Is the voltage above 4.98 volts?

Yes
Go To 2

No
Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION Diagnostic Procedure.
Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)



2. AAT SENSOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------



Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between the (G31) AAT Signal circuit and the (G930) AAT return circuit in the AAT Sensor harness connector.
Ignition on, engine not running.
With a scan tool, read AAT Sensor voltage.

Is the voltage below 1.0 volt with the jumper wire installed?

Yes
Replace the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor.
Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

No
Go To 3
NOTE: Remove the jumper wire before continuing.




3. (G31) AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------



Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the C5 TIPM harness connector.
Ignition on, engine not running.
Measure the voltage on the (G31) AAT Signal circuit in the AAT Sensor harness connector.

Is the voltage above 0 volts?

Yes
Repair the short to battery voltage in the (G31) AAT Signal circuit.
Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

No
Go To 4



4. (G31) AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------



Turn the ignition off.
Measure the resistance of the (G31) AAT Signal circuit from the AAT Sensor harness connector to the C5 TIPM harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes
Go To 5

No
Repair the open in the (G31) AAT Signal circuit.
Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)



5. (G930) AAT RETURN CIRCUIT OPEN

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------



Measure the resistance of the (G930) AAT return circuit from the AAT Sensor harness connector to the C5 TIPM harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes
Go To 6

No
Repair the open in the (G930) AAT return circuit.
Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)



6. TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: Before continuing, check the TIPM harness connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.

Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.

Were there any problems found?

Yes
Repair as necessary.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

No
Replace the Totally Integrated Module per Service Information.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
