Duramax or Cummins
I would like to get some opinions from you guys. I thought I was dead set on a DC, but I have been thinking of possibly buying a Duramax. I have been a long time GM buyer, but I am getting tired of their ugly body styles. I guess the biggest selling point to me is on the Duramx is the Allison transmisson. Is the Aisin 6spd in the new DC going to be comparable to the Allison? Anyway, any opinions is greatly appreciated, espeacially from anyone that has switched from a Duramax to a DC.
I used to be an all GM man myself. I got tired of buttons and ***** breaking and switched to Ford and Dodge. All brands will have problems, some little some big. I say test drive both vehicles and see which one you like the best. I will say GM has some nice looking vehicles but you just cant beat Dodge/Cummins team ...
If you put a chip in it no matter what tranny youve got it will give you issues, I have few friends with Duramaxs that are going through it right now, so I went and got a new trans pan (3 quarts deeper) and a temp guage. From what I have been told as long as you can keep it from getting too hot you will be ok. Personally the Cummins is why I bought the Dodge, which is cheaper...a trans or an engine? [8D]
I to was a GM owner for years, The only thing GM has over the Dodge Mega Cab I have is the ride, The Cummins will out pull the Duramax hands down.If you are looking for power, I would say Dodge, If you wont a good ride, Then GM. I have no regrets. I fell for the $ you get more with the Dodge. My 2 cents...............
I had 4 chevys before this, including the 6.5 turbo in a '94, and one Z-71. If I want another Z-71 I'll go back chevy, otherwise Dodge Cummins is the way to go. I love this truck more than any other truck I've ever had.
the gm allison really isn't an allison. It just a gm that has a few allison parts in it. If you were going to use it for towing, I would get the dodge, if it is for a daily driver, I would probably get the gm but V-8 diesels are a pain to work on[:'(]

I own both Chevy (gas) and Dodge (diesel) - and I trust the Dodge much more than the Chevy. The Chevy only has 10K on it and already I am getting some weird clunk in the front end that has me thinking something's wrong.
The Cummins is a true diesel versus reworking another engine into a diesel as essentially was done with the Duramax. And, I don't know if they resolved it in the last couple years, but when they first started putting that GM/Allison with the Duramax, they had a lot of major failures and they disenchanted a lot of people. My neighbor has a new Duramax and even without any mods to it, when he pulled his fifth wheel the first time for a thousand-plus miles the tranny started slipping and acting up (which had me chuckling since he always makes fun of my Dodge). And before I bought my first CTD, I would ask people at the fuel stops who came in with diesel Dodges how many miles they had and what kind of problems, and it was those first-hand testimonials that convinced me to get a Dodge.

Ramtradxb, That's what I have been doing. Everytime I see someone come up with a Dodge Cummins I get their opinon. I have only had one complaint about the Dodge and the guy didn't even own the truck, his brother did. He said that on the manual his brother had the 6th gear came off the shaft twice and the dealership wanted to weld the nut on. I don't know how much of that I beleive since he was driving a Duramax. Anyway, thanks for the input guys. I'm pretty much set on DC. I just need to sell my house or rob a bank to get the money to buy one.
