Default Help, might be getting 1st gen CTD!!!

I am new here, and i am 16. I found a 1st gen CTD, and i might be buying it. it is a 91, with the intercooler, 5 speed, 2wd. The truck has in the 300,000 mile range, but started up and ran fine. It also has a new injector pump, HO injectors, radiator intercooler, and a few other goodies. The truck starts right up, and runs great. The only problems it has is that he said if you put it in low, 1st and you gun it a few times the transmission will pop out of gear, but all other gears are fine. The Only thing that has me worried is the roof has a small rust hole in it, about 3" by 3", and where the roof meets the windshield is rusting a little. Are these common problems, how hard is it to fix? I can get the truck for 2,000. Would you say this is worth it, or no?

Go for it little "Buckaroo".You may not need first gear unless you are towing.

300k no big deal for a CTD. Just keep it serviced the way the present owner
has and enjoy it.

2k sounds like a good deal.

Oh,to be 16 again, give us old guys all the details about the chicks you get with a CTD.
Remember, girls get wrinkles saying you want me to "WHAT",boys get wrinkles saying
"PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

Good luck

ok, so should i worry about the rust spot on the roof, i plan on cutting it out with a grinder, and fabricating a patch from the inside, then bondoing it to make it look nice, and painting it with some rust preventer. For the front near the windshield, i am also gonna use bondo and clean it up, i do not want a show truck, just a good strong reliable diesel.

sounds to me like you got the body issues figured out so that shouldn't be a problem. the first gear issue would give me some concern, but for the price it sounds good. some people who are more in the know will chime in and let you know about the firt gear issue i'm sure. buy it, drive it, and enjoy the heck out of it.

Ok thanks, what could be causing the 1st gear issue? He just drove it to new mexico and back with no issues at all. Also, is the rust on the roof a common problem, and does this sound like a good way to fix it?

Ryan,
While I was going to school I worked for my uncle at his body shop in the summer to help with tuition. I am by no means mr body man but the guys that did the body work did pretty much what you described. They would either use a die grinder or the plasma cutter depending on how they felt that day. as long as you don't put to thick of a coat of bondo on the area (more than a .25" you should be fine. As for the area around the windsheild I would also suggest applying an anti rust agent on the area after you have cleaned all the rust off. Rust mort was the one that they used and it sealed the area. then you can scuff it and spray some primer and paint. Good Luck on your purchase.

Scott,

thanks for the input. I know that the frame, fenders, doors and hood are all solid, the only other thing would be the rocker panel.
