Lacking in Power
Help,
I tow a 28 foot powerboat with my 2002 Ram diesel. Going up even small hills at 70mph when towing my boat; which weighs about 8500lbs; I've noticed that it will slow down until it reaches 50mph, then it will drop down into the next gear. Both my friends have Fords & Chevy's and tow a lot larger boats than mine and they just walk away from me. What gives? I installed a new fuel and air filter. The truck only has 57,000 miles on it and I have only been getting around 14mpg. Anyone have any sugesstions as to what to look for?
Thanks-Guys

RE: Lacking in Power
You did not say if you have and Auto or stick so please fill out your profile as this will help all to know what you have for and engine and any mods you may or may not have. As for your friends trucks could it be that they are newer and have more HP and Torque?
Anyway if it's an Auto and nothing else is wrong with it, this is one thing that could be happening. It sounds like you just keep your foot in one spot on the go pedel, then your speed falls slowly and then it will kick out of OD all by it's self. Why not just mash on the go pedal a bit earlier to kick it out of OD and run it in the higher RPM range. One other thing is when you see a hill coming pick up your speed and extra 10+ mph so you have just a bit more umph when you start to climb that hill.
Just my $0.02 right or wrong.

Guys I using Drews brew. It doesn't help. My 5.9V8 had more torque that this thing has. Plus I am mashing it to the floor and it will not drop out of OD until 50mph or it will redline. I put a quad zilla on and it made my transmission shutter in OD. I got the one with three settings. They could not help and now I'm stuck with it. Your telling me that this thing dies going up hills when my friends dual axle duramax pulling a 16,000 46 foot long Black Thunder Powerboat pulls on the hill. Somethings wrong. I can't even get it to spin the tires.

What about your fuel pressure, have you had it checked. Maybe carbon build up! If your old 5.9 gas pot had more power then you do have a problem and I wish I had the answer for you.
Oh Drew where are You?? Your needed here ASAP!! Anyone seen Drew lately??[sm=helpout.gif]
