just occured to me... 700 watt block heater... running for 2 hours, could get pricey
That's what I'm waiting to see. If I see a big difference in the power bill, it'll get axed unless it's really gonna be silly cold. Uhhhhh, Alabama, probably not.

Does anyone have a best guess estimate of how long I need to have my 06 CTD plugg'd in in 20 Degree F weather to get any benefit?

Probably not much different than falling asleep with your TV on.

The manual has recommendations for the heater and such. According to mine it is "recommened" to use the block heater below 35F, and below -10F it is required. It also says the heater should be plugged in for at least 1 hour to have an effect.

With mine, at an air temp around 36*, plugged in for 2 hours brought it up to just below the bottom of the normal operating zone.

Where do you think it was after an hour? I'm wondering if what you got was as high as it'll get.

We're expecting it to get to -10 or lower this Wednesday night (daytime temp isn't going to go above +20).

I leave mine plugged in all night when I'm at home. Even during the warmer months (haven't had the CTD that long, but I had heaters on both of my now traded in gassers). It only costs me around $20 a month more in electricity.

Why all the time? I'm a volunteer firefighter and when I get called out, I don't have time to sit in my driveway and wait for more than a couple of seconds. Once I start it, I'll idle it for about 10 seconds. Then I'm gone like a shot. Just want to get the oil circulating and it's much easier when the engine is already warmed, regardless of outside temperature.

Then you're quite familiar with the weather up here.

Yup, small world. And getting smaller because of the internet.
