Newb question: Is there a noise difference if I place the aero where the cat is versus where the muffler is?

I honestly don't know.

Steve seems to think that the Aero works best when placed where the cat is, but I put mine where the muffler was and I think it works and sounds just fine. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with the Aero at all.

yeah my experience is only based on what i've tried... I never put it back where Donny has his... so I cant really comment on it. My setup works fine for me so I dont think i'll be changing it.

I'm just running the XL version of the Aero back where the muffler was. I didn't have a cat I don't think, I'm told that Ihad a resonator. Either way, it's history. It was replaced by a hunk of straight pipe.

Hey Donny, maybe the fact that your aero is so far to the rear isthe reason for your crappy mileage? I bet if you moved it to right after the turbo down pipe, your mileage would go up... consider this... the motor needs to fill the entire pipe with exhaust gases before it starts to build any backpressure from the aero forward. I'll bet that if the aero is moved to right after the downpipe, there would be less exhasut tube volume to fill causing it to fill quicker and thus bringing on some backpressure sooner. i know the aero is a straight thru design, however it does offer some restriction with it's design. I say this because I went from a straight pipe back to the mag to having the aero right after the turbo and noticed a bump in low end.

anyways.. food for thought... [sm=type.gif]

Just wondering AGAIN since Im new to this and all. What is the size of the stock exhaust on my truck? 3.5in or 4in I would appreciate that so I can buy the Aero 4040XL. I figured I'd do that and place the Aero where the cat/resonator is and straight pipe all the way back.

Thanks again,

Rudy

depends on your truck... fill in your signature with your truck details (my profile link @ the top), that way anyone reading it can see what you have... 03 & up HO trucks have 4" all the way back, older than the '03's have 3.5" if I'm not mistaken

Perhaps it had more to do with the way the Aero was forcing the exhaust out of itself and into the backpressured Magnaflow?

I dunno, now I'm getting a headache thinking about the realm of possibilities.

LOL !!

All's I know is that my Aero is mounted and I aint movin it !!
