Default Engine knock/noise

Great info guys!! Just spent the last 6 hours reading. I am new owner of a 07 ctd quad 4x4. So far I love it. However, I seem to notice a ticking/knocking/gargling noise when I accelaerate. Also every once in a while the engine will seem to have a prevalent knock. Knock seems to disappear as engine heats upI am at 3800 miles with no oil change yet. Can anyone relate to these noise in a new ctd. Is this normal noise during breakin? Dealer says no worries!!!! However , I am looking for a million miles and want perfection. Also any comments on first time oil. Was in BJ's and they have a good deal on mobil 1 non synthetic. Thanks Ed

As for oil look on the back to make sure it is rated for a diesel, CI-4+, CI-4 ( I think the new rateing is CJ-4 for the newer2077.5/2008 engines), as if not you will ruine your new engine real quick. An example is the Mibil 1 Truck and SUV can not be used as it is not rated for Heavy Duty diesel use it has a API rateing of I think CD,SJ/ SH for cars pickups and older car diesel engines.

For dino oil most use Dello and Rotella, for synthetic many use Amsoil, Redline and Royal Purple. Enjoy your new truck.

If it is one of the 07's that have all of the epa garbage on it and only run on ULSD, you will have to use a low ash motor oil specifically made for a ULSD engine.

Bob, its the 207.5 that will have the new 6.7 and EPA junk on it. The 2007's have the good old 5.9L in them.

Are you sure this isnt just the normal clatter and noise you get with a cold diesel? Have you ever owned one before? Just curious. If you are getting a loud knock then I would make an appointment and the the dealer take a look. Could be just normal injector clatter or it could be something more serious. You gotz a warrenty! Use that thing!

Your right, but the 2007 good 'ol 5.9 has the EPA garbage on it and has to run ULSD as well. There is a particulate filter in the exhaust just like the 6.7

There sure wasn't any garbage in my 07 5.9. Just your good ole 24V CTD. The only thing in my exhaust was a resonator, cat, and muffler.

I took a look at the 6.7L a friend has the other days. The same 24V CTD is still there, it's just under a bunch of EPA crap.

to help with your rattling... have a look at the top of the forum @ the Drews Brew thread... the brew will definately smooth out the motor...

Does any one know if it is ok to run or change from the regular Delo400 15w-40 to the Delo400LE "Low Emmision" 15w-40o oil????? The new Delo400LE is CJ-4.I have a '06CTD and don't want to F anything up on it. I was thinking about buying a case of it at Costco

Honestly I think (hope) it is just normal diesel clatter. I have not owned a diesel before so I am alittle sensitive to every noise on this $45,000 truck. Is is "Normal" to have alittle clatter on a new 07 CTD. Will this eventually go away as the break in period expires. Thanks for your help
