I dunno ... I guess I've always thought that a truck should be a TRUCK. If you're looking for a economical daily driver, get yourself a Mini Cooper or something like that. I never quite understood the mid-size truck thing.

you'd be amazed how much of a load my little mid sized truck can take. . .

I had one of those home depot 8'x8' shed kits with the 8'x10' foundation kit in the bed, I wasnt on the bump stops yet, but close. but I did ride the bump stops and slightly bend the springs with enough lumber to build one of these play centers, and carried it all in one shot.

they are good for the homeowner for sure... the would definately have to build it up to handle whatever you throw at it. one thing that amazes me is the differences in the frames on the rams... full box front to back on the CTD's... my 2000 was only partial. they'd have to do some stuff like that to the little trucks to make them more durable. I view them as disposable whereas the full size trucks are rebuildable.

Like it or not, the new Toyota Tundra is as capable as any 1500 from Dodge, Ford or Chevy. This isn't the old Tundra. A buddy of mine has a 2002 Tundra, I always tell him, "It's like a full size truck, but it isn't" The new Tundra is a true full size truck with a 381 hp / 401 tq 5.7 gas engine.

You know why I like dodge, its b/c they are the innovators of things, such as the Heavy Duty Truck. They notice how some companies are making their trucks and then make their truck 10x better.

Not picking on ya, just pointing something out....We ALL need to be realistic in a look at this.

How many of us REALLY NEED a 3/4 or 1 Ton truck? Answer....Probably not many.

How many of us could VERY WELL get along just fine with a 1/2 ton truck? Answer...Probably most.

How many of us load our trucks ROUTINELY to or above 70% of it's GVWR or GCWR? Answer...Again, probably no many.

How many of us just love the sound of a diesel? Answer...Probably damn near all of us.

So what's my point? Just this. I'm sure it will be a great truck that could perform the tasks that at least 80% of truck buyers actually perform.

Capacities, numbers, ratings, payload, yadda, yadda, yadda.....is all COMPLETELY irrelevant unless you UTILIZE IT. Otherwise, all WE are really paying for isa cool sounding truck that has capability beyond what MOST of us will ever need.

Okay, rant mode off...

I think like others have said. It will all come down to dollars. Quality engineering aside a toyota with a cummins motor is going to be very, very expensive, even inthe strippo form factor. Not many contractors and company fleets are going to be willing to fork out the extra dough. Remeber large fleet sales are most manufactures bread and butter.

Cumm, I think you are also correct in saying a majority of the NON fleet or commerical sales of 3/4 and 1 ton diesels are purchased by people that just want the power of a diesel. I look at buying a diesel just like buying a corvette.

Well the toyotas are a nicer vehical. It is kind of like the F150 king ranch. It is a expensive truck with nice interior. You can get a cheap toyota, or get the loaded crewmax. Some one is going to buy it no matter what its price. And with toyota being one of the leaders in the car market in the world, i dont think they are to worried about building an expensive truck.
