Toyota Megacab, Crewmax
Squirt,
You kind of missed the point. No argument about Toyotas fit, finish and quality. Heck I bought my wife a loaded Highlander Limited with Nav and she loves it.
But take a crewmax limited, add the diesel, and you are prob talking near 60K. Will some people still buy it? Of course. Will the crewmax over take Ford, Chev or Dodge in 3/4 or 1 ton sales, I doubt it.

I really think it will depend on a few factors.
1 - I think the folks that will buy a 3/4 ton Toy diesel will be the disgruntled folks that have been burned in the past, but didn't have an alternative.
2 - Large companies that plan to keep them until they rot. We all know that Toyota makes a product that runs for decades withe little attention.
3 - You always have the Toyota faithful, just like here, that want to step up to something bigger and badder than a Tacoma.
Will it put a "serious" dent in the Ford, Chevy or Dodge line. Not for a few years, but if this thing proves solid and reliable it could be trouble.

I wasnt saying it was going to take over the truck industry. It is just going to be a truck that people will buy. The cheap models are going to be bought, and so are the high end diesels. Toyota makes enough on there cars that they will survive without a booming truck rage. We have to make sure this topic doesnt get out of hand
Hey guys you need to check out this link. I read this just last night right here in another post.

I am a huge fan of the inline engine. . .I feel you get better performance out of it, however if these engines were out when I was looking at getting my truck a 1500 with the diesel V8 would weigh VERY heavy on my mind. heck, even with my ~7500 pound truck I still can get over 19mpg depending on how heavy my right foot is and what I have my TST turned to
I don't know what all the fuss is about. I don't think Toyota's are all that much better. My moms old econobox 1980 Toyota corrola was great. But my wifes 2004 loaded Sienna does not impress me a bit. It has had 4 recalls, things keep coming loose. The rear brakes make weird noises since new and they can find nothing wrong. It'salmost as dissapointing as my last Ford 6.0 truck. Dodge will have a 1500 with a diesel and the durango is getting one too. If I wanna downsize I have those choices as well as Ford and Chevy can't be far behind.
