Default Mech., or electric gauges.

Hey guys. I plan on getting 4 gauges all autometer cobalts, one in a srt Apiller mount and the other 3 in a topmount dash kit. 60psi Boost, Pyro, Tranny temp, Fuel Pressure.

I have a question. I know the reletive difference between the mechanical and electric gauges. but which is better, or does it matter. The electrics are usualy a good 2 times the price in most cases, and seem to do the same job, whats the advantages/disadvantages.

Now remember i plan on doing serious mods on this pickup, but plan on taking my time and doing it right.

Did someone say......AUTOMETER COBALTS?

That's my setup in the pic. They only change is I have replaced the digital voltmeter with the 6191 full sweep. The digital meter's back lighting was non dimmable.

As you can see, all the gauges are full sweep, stepper motor mechanical. Have not had a single problem. I think the cobalts are the best color scheme as well.

Here what I learned about these gauges. I had a A pillar setup. The gauges along with the pod, added so much depth to the pillar, on 2 occasions within days of each other, I almost killed someone because they were hidden behind the pillar. I never saw her ven begin to croos the street.

So I found this 4 pod, and center of the dash it went. I have all 4 on seperate dimmers. And without gettin any other gear heads stirred up, I reccomend you run a seperate power line to illuminate all these gauges. The Cobalts, without any dimming are BLINDING at night. Extremely bright.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Nuthin' else.

Good luck with your ride.

Demon's setup really rocks. I just did the single pillar SRT10 thing with a Autometer UltraLite2 boot gauge. I am thinking of going with a headliner gauge and adding EGT - Trans Temp and Fuel Pres.

Is there a mount that will go up by the rear view mirror. I am looking at getting some gauges. I had 3 whatechs on my ford on the pillar but they are just to small to look at just at a glance. I looked at the srt pillar with the EGT and Boost guage, but that is even smaller. Recommendations?

Yeah, I think that set-up looks great. Unfortunately they don't make it for my year.

Mayfair,

You would have no problem with it fitting your truck, that is if you were to go buy your self a newer truck to fit the gauge holder [sm=smarty.gif]
