Honking in Revese
I had my dealer do the upgrade since it detects the dangerous condition of not being in park all the way. I have never liked the feel of the steering column shifter ('05). There should be a positive click when going into park.
I thought they were going to install awarning buzzer, and they didn't notice I had 150 psi air horns installed. The mechanic almost had a heart attack when testing it!
It sometimes falsely triggers whenI park and jump out too quickly.
A better way to disable it would be to bypass the control module by installing your own horn relay. (Unless you have an anti-theft system since this would disable the horn output as well). You could then connect the old horn circuit to a buzzer inside the cab to retain the safety feature.Since this involves working around the airbag circuit, expertelectrical systems knowledge is required!

If having your seatbelt on disables the "Honking" Than I wonder if tieing the two wires together from your seatbelt buckel that is under the seat would work making the truck think you have your belt on.........................

As far as the airbag goes. I dunno about that one way or the other. But really it doesn't bother me. I wear my seatbelt sometimes but not always and I hated that dashlight when I didn't.
This honking in reverse really is a pain in the A--. I have posted here about this before and I thought by now some of our electronic whizs who post on this board would have come up with a neat, tidy solution or at least their teen-age kid did!!! Seat belt trick won't work, door latch impractical, deactivating belt sensor not a good idea and so on. I have two friends who seem interested in buying a new DodgeCTD but have heard me swear enough about the horn business that they are holding off. I just wish the hell some Dodge engineers read this forum and had to hook up goose-neck trailers in pitch black, nasty weather conditions while the bloody horn wakes up the dead!! I'll bet there would be a retro-fix in no time. No mechanic I know will work on the thing because they do not know what all interrelated effects may take place with the computer and I can't say I blame them. I even got desperate enough to crawl around under the truck thinking I could tap into the wires going to the horn!!!!. What a joke. I think the wiring loom under there that goes to the headlights, horn, Homeland Security, and people police headquarters came from a Boeing 747!! What the hell ever happened to 2 nice little wires going toa visible and accessible horn???
Except for the horn business, I love my 2005 CTD dearly, but I say to Dodge. I will never buy another of their trucksas long as this reverse horn system prevails.
Okay! My rant is over!

You can fix this with a relay and a few feet of wire or 10 bucks at your local parts store. I suggest this fix everytime that this topic comes up but no one seems to be interested in it. I'll draw it out on paper and scan it in and post the result here if anyone is interested.
