Default Opinon Needed, Locker Additive

I recently replaced the differential fluid in my '04 2500 4x4 with AMSOIL 75-90 gear lube.

The shop that replaced it said something about an additive to the rear diff because I've got a stock locker in there.

Does the AMSOIL lube require an additive in this 11.5 rear diff??

As far as I know, Dodge does not require an additive in the LSD like GM (used to?). To be safe, I would give a dealer a call. Or just PM Drew here on the board. He has an IQ of 240 when it comes to these Diesels.

Man, I dont know if we should be answering you...[sm=icon_stickpoke.gif] it's been how long since you visited with us???

lol, just messing with ya. How's it been? hows the truck running?

i'd go to the amsoil website and see what they have to say on the gear oil you bought... it may already have it in there.

welcome back... [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Your manual will tell you that the AAM axles with anti-spin do not require any friction modifier. AMSOIL is quality stuff so i wouldn't think you would want to add anything else.

Hey Allen,

As Bill is so fond of saying, and I'll agree, I've been busy chasing tail!!! Now that I've got her [sm=happy046.gif], I'll be there more often but not on weekends because I'm working. Yes, I know. You have the same job, BUT I WORK 12 hour shifts to your 8 hour so [sm=smarty.gif]. Besides, I'm trying to pack up and get ready for a very busy week next week. Marriage, moving her and her son over here, moving to McGill, etc.

Steve,

I've been around, and have posted a couple of messages. But you are right, I've been neglectful of making myself more available. What can I say, chasing women (and actually catching one) takes time! Besides, you are more of a gear head than I am so I defer to your superior judgement and intellect about these here rigs[sm=hail.gif]. How's that for shmoozing??

The Amsoil website didn't mention anything about adding the additive to these diffs, but I am just covering my bases. They do make one but didn't say anything about it being required for my rig.

I think Bigmike has it right. Amsoil is some quality stuff and if it isn't required, why try and reinvent the wheel. So I think I'll just accept that it's A-OK and find my next little project.

It's running great. I don't plan on making the same mods you've done, but the mod bug is gnawing at me!

No additive needed in these trucks. The LSD units are gear driven, not clutch packs.

Clutch pack LSD's need the friction modifier or you get a bunch of chatter.

That settles it then. I'll quit worrying about it.
