Default New Upgrades!!!!!

Ok so I have my flame suit on just in case someone is to flame the noob.

Well, yesterday I figured I would drop by a local 4x4 shop to see how much they would charge to put in a straight 4in pipe and ended up having them cut off the resonator and muffler and put the pipe in its place for $300. I figured that was really inexpensive so went ahead with it and canceled my order for the Aero4040xl.

While I was waiting around I began to converse with an older man around his late 30's about trucks, well comes to find out that he owns an 06 QCAB Cummins. I told him what i was doing and he then began to tell me that this was his 3 Cummins and that he was there to get the SuperChips Flaspaq installed. I asked if he wouldn't mind taking me for a spin after they installed it to feel what the difference was if any. Needless to say with his stock exhaust that Flashpaq kicked A$$. We got back to the shop and I was hooked so I bought the SuperChips Flashpaq for $450 and I love the truck and its non-stop powerband.

So am I stupid for purchasing the SuperChips Flashpaq or was it a good buy. Really haven't done any research on itbut I love the way the truck pulls.

Thanks,
Rudy

I can't speak to the super chips, but I think you over paid to have your truck straight piped. BUT, the bottom line is if you are happy with your truck then all is good. From what I have read here, you should get some guages and don't beat on your truck or you could damage the trans (without upgrades). I 'm sure someone with your setup will chime in. Good luck with your ride.

Well maybe I wasnt clear on the straight pipe but what it was they cut out the resonator and input like this hiflow cat/muffler in its place similar to the Aero and straight all the way back. I figured if I bought the Aero and had them install it, the price would be $236 for the Aero, $100 to install, & another $150 for the muffler delete. That brings me to a grand total of $486 vs the $300 to do it all there, saving me obviously $186. So that being said, what doyou think everyones .02 welcome.

Thanks,
Rudy

I think you overpaid... I had a mag installed and a cat delete for $250. if I had the aero there it wouldnt have cost me much more than that... only 1 more weld to do.

what setting do you have the flashpaq on?

Well I guess I over paid by 50 bucks, so shoot me, at least I can look at that I gave it to a local 4x4 shop, and got it done right.

The SuperChips is set at the Performance level. GOSH that thing made a huge difference, especially in 4th gear cruising about 75 mph it shoots to 100+ in seconds.

that is a pretty healty jump according to the website... (dyno sheet). watch out for your tranny... last thing you want to do is break it under warranty... rule of thumb is you should not go over about 75 hp.. otherwise the tranny & TC will start slipping.

i have lots of suggestions... the biggie is dont fry your tranny... it's an expnsive fix out of warranty. I have the TST setup and love it... I can adjust the powerlevels on the fly, monitor my egt's & boost level and it has a cool turbo timer that allows me to leave the truck while it cools down after a hard run... I did run the edge juice with attitude and it had built in protection against tranny slipping... nice feature.

Rudy,

The Superchips seems to be a decent product and I believe you can adjust your top end limiter and adjust for different tire sizes.

Steve is 100% dead on correct about being carefull with modding an Auto tranny on any diesel (FORD-CHEVY-DODGE). The 06 CTD already has 320+ HP at the crank with 610 foot pounds of torque. If you are going to add 75+ RWHP (which is a hell of a lot more crank power) and you are putting your 48RE at risk (if you truck is an Auto).

The issue here is DC never intended for a CTD to have 365 or so+ RWHP. The problem you will run into is the Torque Converter will not be able to handle the excess of power at full lock. You will hammer the gas, the TC will lock then start to slip. The clutch paqs in the TC will wear and degrade and all the clutch material can and will clog up your auto tranny. This is just one scenario of what can happen.

Before you start ranting about Dodge's auto, Chevy's and Ford's auto can and will suffer the same fate if you boost up the power to high.

Rememberyou play you pay.
