Default RE: truck dies in cold weather

My guesses would be:

1. Fuel overflow relief valve may have gone bad. Lift pump cannot maintain proper fuel pressure if this valve breaks in the open position. Also if your fuel lines are original, I would inspect them as well.

2. Your fuel preheater could also be bad. If the fuel is not being heated, it may be gelling/waxing up in the filter.

3. I would also check your shut off solenoid positioning. If it is out of spec the motor could be starving for fuel.

And your 100% sure your intake air heaters are working? There is more than the heater realys that can make a "clicking" sound when you turn the key to the run position. What does your wait to start lamp do? Does it come on at all? If your truck is unplug and the weather is below 45 degrees, the WTS lamp should stay illuminated for an extended period.

Get in the truck, keep your overhead lights on in the cab, and turn the key to run. As soon as the WTS lamp goes out, you should see a noticable increase in brightness from the interior lamps. If the interiorlampsget bright when the WTS lamp goes out, the assume your heaters are working.

If you have problems cranking the truck between tries, then it sounds like you have battery issues. Bad cables, corroded connections, etc. Your truck needs BOTH batteries to be up to snuff. If one battery goes bad, it will take the other one with it relatively quick.

Let us all know what you find as you go along.

Good luck with your ride.
