My95 dodge 3/4 ton cummins, has trouble starting in cold weather.Starts fine in temp' above 40 degree's,but has trouble staying running under 35 degree's .Will start a little rough, run for about a minute, lose power and die, thenI have trouble getting it to crank again.I will let it sit for awhile and afterthe temp warms up outside,i'll tryto start it up.It takes a little bitbefore it will finally crank up and run ,butthe engine is real rough while trying to start.
Oh, Have you noticed what color smoke you have coming out the exhaust when it does start in cols weather? It will help narrow it down to what could be the problem.
Yeah, as long as the temp outside is above 38 degrees or warmer, it will crank and run just fine.
when its below it's rough starting ,dies then wont crank up again.
White smoke, Ok itoccurs mainly during cold starts as you can see, when the fuel tends to condense into liquid and does not burn due to cold engine parts. The most common reason for white smoke are
in-operative or bad glow plugs (Most likely), Or low engine compression, a bad injector spray pattern, late injection timing or injection pump problems. I would look first at the glow plugs. Hope this helps....................
