Look What I found
i have full replacement airraid with 30,000 miles and no problems never seen anything any thing like that and have been running k&n and airraid for years k&n longer with no problems
I've been using K&N's as well, for more than 15 years in many different vehicles, several with turbo's, never had a problem.
I would assume any filter, if something were to get sucked in to the bottom of it blocking air flow, would probably get sucked apart.

I think what that is is the felt under the filter similar to the stock filters.
It was replaced with a AMSOIL EaA 189.
I had the filter ordered but wasnt sure when it would arrive.
As I found this mess the filter was delievered.
Sent an Email to Airraid with the pic to see what they say.

Drew,
The filter that you put a link to has a green piece of something on the bottom of it. On the Airraid, there was the same thing.
I think thats what was sucked into the filter,
At least it didnt make it into the system. Or as far as I can tell

the AFE's hold up real well... my guess is the wire mesh got damaged allowing it to be torn apart. did you clean it at all or was it due for it's 1st cleaning?
