Default Tow/Haul mode switching

Do you guys switch back to regular mode when hauling or stay in tow mode?
Like starting out in tow/haul and then switching it off when I get going.
I gotta haul the in-laws ford back from Kentucky where it is broke down and was just wondering.

p.s. I'll be sure to get pics pulling a ford

thanks
paul

The good thing with the tow / haul mode is that is will lock the TC in 3rd gear, rather than waiting until 4th. It also delays the shift into 4th and holds it longer under accelleration, rather than downshifting like crazy.

If I turn the Attitude up to 3 or higher, I run tow/ haul and it performs significantly better. I'm running this tank on Level 3 and turning on the TH mode whenever I drive and my mileage is hovering between 18.8 and 19.2......that's on the overhead, but it is a bit higher than normal.

It almost feels like a 6 speed, with the TC locking in 3rd and 4th.

Wow! I have never used it at a high enough speed for it to change into 4th gear, it has always just been 3rd and locked
I wasn't even aware that it changed gears again.

Thanks again,
Paul

When towing my 5th wheel (only about 10K #)I usually leave it in Tow/Haul because the shifting feels better. I have run it in regular at times. I don't notice any significant difference in fuel mileage.

It usually holds 3rd until you are at 50 MPH or so and not hammering on it. Also, if you have the cruise control set, it shiftsright around there as well.

It's kinda nice......when the TC locks in 3rd, if feels like you got shoved by a friggin freight train.....same thing in 4th.

I have a '05 2500 series CTD with auto/OD. and 3:73 gears Even when pulling 12 to 14 K, I just leave the trans. in D. The one exception is if starting out in real hilly terrain. That engine has so much grunt, that it just does not seem to matter and I detect no strain on the trans.

Like I was saying.....the good thing about T/H mode is that it locks your TC in 3rd. This helps to lessen the heat buildup. It also holds 4th gear longer before downshifting......again, helps with the heat buildup.
