Default Wastegate??? what is it

What is a waste gate? what does it do? Modifications?
Had someone tell me yesterday to drill a hole in the wastegate and get more boost? I ain't doing it but want to learn what it is and what it does.

a waste gate is a valve controlled by boost pressure. It senses the boost in the intake and when the boost gets high enough, it opens which diverts exhaust gasses away from the turbine. drilling ahole in the line keeps the boost from reaching the wastegate actuator.

LikeJake said. The main function of a wastegate is to allow some of the exhaust to bypass the turbo when the set intake pressure or boostis achieved. Since a turbo can spin to RPMs far beyond what is needed.

Oh and by the way, I was able to squeeze 12 psi more by drilling out my wastegate actuator line.

drilling it out means you got a really small intake leak (unnoticable) I believe I used a 3/32nds drill bit. Egts went up maybe 50F I only drove it for a day or two before I installed my chip so I don't have too much info to go off. But I could definatly feel a difference and could really hear a difference.

Thanks Jake, think I'll leave mine alone. What kind of chip did you put in? Also where can I get oil filters from and what kind? I figured on using the Delo from Walmart-seems to be a good oil from the forums I read. Neew to diesels and just loving it. Took silencer ring out and now it whistles and wife likes it

She sounds like a keeper. Most of them complain about the whistle causing headaches , being too loud, what's that noise? and such nonsense

Genos garage sells filters. You can also pick them up at any diesel truck shop. I get mine from work at a really good deal, also get delo 400 free. I like to run fleetguard since it's a cummins filter.
