Ram SRT-10 vs. Silverado SS
I read up on the Chevy Silverado SS Regular Cab and I was kind of curious about how it would stand up against the SRT Ram. It has 395HP and 409TQ coming out of a 6.0L/366cid Vortec V-8. I thought it was no big deal until I read the part where it said that the truck is AWD and weighs around 4100lbs! Are they lying? That is really lite for a truck. Now I am worried. It is 1000lbs less than the Ram SRT. They did not mention what they thought the performance would be, anybody heard any different?
Well there is no Silverado SS Regular Cab pickup. My friend who runs http://www.pickuptruck.com (Mike Levine), talked to a General Motors board member at press week at NAIAS earlier this month. According to the board member, there currently is no plans for a regular cab model. They already have plans to bring out a Tahoe SS and TrailBlazer SS both w/ the Escalade's 6.0L HO "VORTEC" V-8. He mentioned that these vehicles will make it to production before they will have a chance to work on a SS Regular Cab, by then the new generation of Chevrolet pickups (GMT900) models will be out.

Well thanks for clearing that up. The Tahoe SS, Trailblazer SS, and reg cab Silverado SS were all in a magazine together, I just figured they would produce them all.

Yup, sorry for breaking the bad news!

Go here to find what else Mike learned from talking to big wigs at NAIAS! Some very intrestign Ranger info, in there too!

If they were making it, you would be hearing all about it being the fastest production truck ever. At 1,000LBS less and AWD with 395 HP, it would grab and go like a bat out of hell.
I say if they want a kick butt sport pickup, make a Regular Cab Short Box 4X2 w/ a HO 8100 VORTEC Big Block V-8 in it, backed by a 6-speed manual and 4:10 rear end, w/ the SS body kit. Then Chevy might have a nice run at the Lightning and Ram SRT-10.

The SS couldn't touch the SRT-10. The SS runs VERY similar numbers to the Hemi equipped 4x2 SB reg cab Ram 1500. Motor Trend did a big test between the two and ultimately came out with the SS being something like 2/10ths of a second faster in the quarter.

What is chevy thiking silverado ss awd what a joke for a perfromace truck, a know a guy who has own and if it weren't for the fact he's pulling, and hunting with it. he wouldn't have bought it, he get's terrible mileage with awd typical of all full time 4x4 systems in truck's THe only true srt-10 rival is the svt lightning and if ford wise's up and put the gt's engine in it they'll be neck to neck on the track. Personally i'd rather see a 500+ hp hemi than the v10 but that's my preferance.
