Default Not so good vibrations...

We're the proud owners of a 2005 RAM SRT10 Yellow Fever Edition (#142) truck. We found a truck that had 345 miles on it and couldn't resist buying it. It's a beauty - still brand new, full warranty, etc. ! Anyway, we picked up the truck and drove it across country to our humble little town in Washington state. On the way, we discovered that the truck has a vibration that really kicks in at 60 mph and up. Okay, that's REALLY annoying if you own an SRT10! How much fun is it to limp along s-l-o-w-l-y in a high performance vehicle!!! We've asked around and opinions range from a bent wheel to tire problems. We stopped a couple of places on the way home, had the tires rebalanced, had the truck looked over by a highly respected mechanic at a dealership and the consensus is still either a bent wheel or tire issues. We're looking for more information or insights. Any suggestions, ideas or insights??? We've read about similar issues on the forum, but most of those postings were at least a year old. Anyone out there have any new information or updates on how things are going now with the trucks that previously had vibration issues???? We read something about "road force balancing" - enlighten us as to what that is and where to get it done.
THANKS in advance!

This is simple. Tires. There are many SRT owners that have issues with Perrelli's. They even had a Perrelli person look into this, he said it was not the tires, even after a new set of other tires corrected the problem. Pisses me off! This is why you can buy the Perrelli's on Tirerack for $169!! Do not buy them, get a different brand. I would also work through your dealership. Chances are they will not replace the tires out of the gate.

What is the issue with the tires? I do not know, I could wager guesses. We know they are balanced, maybe it has to do with heat buildup, which weakens the sidewalls during operation. Maybe it is the tread pattern wearing strange. Neither of these would show up on a balancer. I will give them some credit though, for a truck with this much power they do hookup fairly well for a street tire.

1. Take your truck to the dealer and take the service manager for a ride and have him/her document the issue. Tell them you know other SRT owners that had this issue and it was the tires and you are willing to put new ones on at your expense, however if it corrects the issue you want compensation, get all this is writing.
2. Get new tires, not Perrelli's.
3. Go back and take them for another ride, have him document the vibration is gone and request compensaion. Give your truck has less that 1K miles the tires should be free!

For these steps to work you need to BS and get to know the manager a little bit. Do not walk in pissed off, walk in BS'ing and getting to know the person, then take him/her for a ride.

I've had a couple experiences with my truck vibrating. In my case, it was most likely because i parked up along a sloped curb (the kind that are the same angle as the driveway lip). Driving to the store after having my truck partially up on the curb, i noticed a considerable amount of vibration. It took about 20 minutes of driving for the vibration to chill out. Your trip obviously seems much longer than mine was and therefore, its a different problem, but for anyone else that may experience it once in a while, take a peak at where ur tires are when ur parked.

Best of luck with the tires, when u get that all squared away, ENJOY!

Thanks for the advice regarding the vibration issue we had. We took the truck to Les Schwab and they checked everything, just to be sure. They also road force balanced the tires and discovered that one of the tires is really bad. They said the tolerance is between 26 and 32 and this tire is at 82! They are contacting Perelli and will be getting us another tire - the tires are still under warranty. Just doing what they've done so far has really helped to smooth out the ride, so it should be excellent when they get that new tire! Again, thanks for the suggestions, advice, and quick response to our questions.

We're new to the forum and love reading what other Dodge fans have to say about the truck and vehicles they own!

You're running the tires that Les Schwab suggested we put on ours - when our stock Perellis wear out. Good to hear they are running smooth for ya.

Excellent! I will always tell people what I think of Perrelli tires! If our stories of crappy tires can help someone buy a better tire we have done our jobs. Just make sure to get something else when the time comes!

I have the PARELLI'S on my SRT10 also. I have horrible vibration between 65 and 80 MPH - over 80 and it reduces greatly. I took it back to the dealership and they rebalanced the tires but the vibration was still there. So the dealer told me that there was nothing they could do. I needed to go to a PARELLI authorized dealer for warranty. So I did and they Road Force balanced them and the vibration was still present. Then they replaced 3 of the 4 tires and the vibration was still there!!! They told me that it was not the tires or wheels causing the vibrations. So I swapped wheels and tires from a friend’s truckand the vibration finally was gone. He had BF Goodrich tires. So it is either the wheels or the tires is causing the vibration.
This is last Dodge that I buy,not because of the automobiles are bad but dealerships seem to find a way not stand behind their products. Believe me I love the truck but trying to get them to fix it is like pulling teeth. I tried two local dealerships here and wrote Dodges customer service with no response….Never had problem with Lexus or Infinity with my wife cars. Dodge my want re-think what 5 star means dealership because both, that I have been to SUCK.
