lightnings in the second generation form came stock with 380 hp for 4years and 400 i believe for 2 years. Not 330.

 

all second gen lightnings have a supercharged sohc 5.4l 330cubic inch v8. 99 and 2000 supposedly had 360hp and 01 on up had 380hp.

my point is just they are 2 different ways that ultimately come down to the same ending. a awesome performance truck just like there is a difference on how chevy, ford, and dodge came to making a supercar chevy 427 v8, dodge 505 v10, and ford mid engine dohc 5.4l supercharged v8. they are different but they are all awesome supercars.

 

the cool thing about the lightning is they beefed up that 5.4 BIG TIME so it can handle power and the tranny is basically the same tranny that's in the gasoline f250's so it can handle the power of the motor as well. those things respond amazingly to simple mods.

 

Spend about 3k for a good nitrous system----add 300 hp and there is not much about that will give you a run. I have that and a Magnaflow exhaust system and have pulled a zo6 Vette in a roll on.

 

I personally hate nitrous. If I was going to spend around 3k it would be smarter to save 2 or 3 more thousand and just buy a turbo or a S/C

 

If you are spraying a 300shot in stock engine the engine isn't going to last long. Maybe 75-100 shot at the most for a stock engine.

 

The only reason you hate nitrous is that you have heard all the horror stories about blown engines. Yes, you cannot just put a cheap nitrous system on a srt-10 truck and expect it to last. I owned a nitrous shop back in the 70's and was the 34 customer of NOS and have blown plenty of motors but------------you have to have all the safety controls installed and the list is almost endless. You MUST have a seperate fuel supply feeding the system the highest octane fuel you can buy. I have a three gallon tank in the bed with a 70 psi pump regulated to 50psi and it is a return system---it comes on when you arm the system. The other MUSTS are fuel pressure cut out, bottle warmer regulated to 900 psi, purge system, computer controled activation and many other items for ensuring the 10 lives to fight another day. I have been running this system for over a year with zero problems. There is not other upgrade that will give you this kind of preformance.

 

One other thing is that you must be running a wide band controller!!!! I have a system you can program to cut the nitrous off if the AF ratio passes a pre-set limit.

 

well i must say that i respect a ll the comments made but i cant keep my mouth shut.
i always hear and read that the viper has liters on the ford and that may be true but look at it this way you have a sohc 5.4L v-8 with a supercharger don't quote me on this but i want to say the stock charger is 2.1L so add that together and you get 7.5L vs 8.3L not a big difference about the same you see with a mustang vs camaro the 5.0 or 4.6 .. and another thing to look at is its a sohc vs a pushrod and the motor wieght is about the same give or take 15 or 20lbs. and all the supercharged lightnings have had the 330cu inch the 94's had a 351. i would say if you can get ahold of a used lightning i would say 02-04 with low miles (known for shelling trans) for 10K less than a 04-06 srt-10 then go for it cause with 1K investment it'll run but you don't get the real feeling of power till you throw a N/A V-10 into first and drop that clutch and then slam threw the gears and see that speedo hit 150 before you know it is just freaking awsome.

and i have drove both hard.

i went with my 04 SRT-10 nothing like a manual trans thats bullit proof.
