Default 95 ram 3500 360 DIED

iS THIS NORMAL?Motor died this morning while warming up.Now I have no spark. When I turn the ign on,I get power to the coil + wire only for 1-2 seconds then it goes off.Power to coil returns when cranking. If I put a test light to the high tension output on the coiland turn the key on/off,shouldn't the light flash? It doesn't.Can't seem to detect power at the coil output at all.Jerry

Talking about turning the key and flashing, have you done the key on/off three times without turning the eninge over and leavingthe key to on on the last round? This will either cause the engine light to blink a sequence of flashes or a display of error engine codes to understand the problem. Report back here if you got any.

CPS voltage checked out ok at 5v,coil secondary is good at 11500ohms but, when I try to get the coil primary my meter starts out at 12 ohms and slowly counts down.Got impatient at 5.4 as the meter has probes not clips.Probably about a minute.Maybe if I leave it connected,it wwould slooowly get down to where it needs to be?Should it take that long,or maybe my meter?Tried another coil on my boat motor ,does the same thing.

when I try to get the coil primary my meter starts out at 12 ohms and slowly counts down.
That's due to capacitance in the circuit. Disconnect the primary wires from the coil and try it.
But before you go any further, with everything connected, connect a test light across the two primary terminals of the coil (not to ground) and crank the engine. Does the light flash continuously while cranking?

Too late,I already took the coil out.I did have all wires off and coil removed when doing the test for primary resistance.Tried this today.I get supplied 12v to +,set coil on battery with tower about 1/4" from the neg post. When I touch the neg wire(from coil) to the neg post on the batt,no spark from tower, good spark from wire to post.Internally shorted coil?

Are you INSANE? Read the top of that battery, it probably has something along the lines of "WARNING EXPLOSIVE HAZARD".

Take your coil to the auto parts store, they test them for free (usually).

Thanks Alloro. You R right,DANGER but,you know how some of us r.With a stoge hangin from my lip,I did it anyways.LOL Wouldn,t tell my kid to do it but...Was a good test though.New coil and she fired right up.Could have done it safer with some longer leads to get me away from the batt. Thanks for your time and responses. They seem to be few and far between on this forum as well as at dodgetalk.I totally understand though.I mean, who has the time to hang out here and answer strangers stupid questions all day?Guess I'm getting kinda spoiled at the "iboats"forum.LOTS of wonderful advise/knowledge over there. If anyone is into boating, those guys are great. Thanks again,Jerry
