Could you describe the problem. We may be able to help by knowing what it is or not doing.
There is no 9-volt battery built in tothe system.
I am not sure that the 88 had a "Check Engine" light. If it does you may try turning the key to the on position (do not start the motor), turn off the key, repeat two more times but the last time leave the key in the on position. If yours has the feature it will now flash (blink, pause, blink) the codes using the "Check Engine" light. Code 12 will be the beginning code letting you know the system is starting to give you its stored codes. 55 is the end of code list, meaning that the system is done.

thanks for answer!!!!!

my van go with gasoline and LPG (in italy gasoline cost abaut 10$/gallon).

when I buy it, it go only with gasoline. I must clean the LPG ignition system and now it go very well wiht lpg, but "check engine" light is ever on.

If I use LPG for few mile and after i start to use gasoline, the engine start to take hi rpm, after it takes low rpm for 3 or 4 times and after die.

to solve the problem i must reset cpu (i cut battery for some minutes) and for a little time they work well, but the "check engine" light is ever on (with LPG and with gasoline)

i'd like to know as sove this problem and why my "check engine" light is ever on...

the check engine light work only for engine or also for transmission and ohter thing???

thanks
best regards
Gian

I am not familure with the Gas/LPG conversions.

The check engine light on your van should be only for the engine. I do not believe that they had the computer controling the transmission at that time.
Your computer controls the carberator (a little) and the ignition system. It relys on different sensors to give the computer the information it needs to properly run the engine. The Check Engine light means that the codes will have to be pulled to get a better idea of what the fault is that has triggered the light.

If you know of a repair shop that specializes in american cars they may have scanner that would hook to your vans computer and pull the codes.

Try looking for a Chilton's Repair manual for your van. It should have the pictures you are looking for.
