ignition no power

Question ignition no power

hello,i'm new, have 87 dodge b250 360 have no power when key is turned on.(it started then something smoked then nothing) have head lights. unplugged ignition switch crossed wires, starts, runs. no radio,no charging. am i asking a question i answered? bad ignition switch? any ideas would be great.9(replaced starter relay) if so, anyone know where i can get one that is not $80.00 thanks

More than likely you cooked a fusible link that powers the ignition switch.

thanks i'll dissect the wiring, i see the big/main fusible link is good. i did not know there were other links behind the main one i'll let you know. again, thank you

I trust you replaced with a correctly sized fusible link and not just a piece of wire.

well, not really, i put a fuse in it(and the others) instead,that way it won't smoke and freak me out. thanks again for the info also, have the new alternator and working great. i've had this van eight years replaced everything except the power steering pump hated to give up on it, its kinda sentimental since i blew the engine in canada on a job walked 10 miles(in the sun) to get a radiator hose to limp it across the border.its always been faithful
