Direct quote from my Haynes Manual:

" code 45. Overdrive solenoid. Problem detected in the overdrive solenoid circuit"

And something to note is that Cardone says ECM/PCM failures are most likely caused by problems in the tranny's solenoids.

No it wouldn't. If you don't have an engine code for the stalling problem, i would ck for fuel pressure and flow.

First, I am no tranny expert.
You might not have overdrive, but may have a lock up torque converter.
I could imagine that this converter locked up, would stall the engine when downshifting/ coming to a stop. but,
A TCC solenoid circuit would be a code 37

You are right. But with code 45 3/4 shift solenoid no rpm drop. this tell me the torque converter is not able to lock up, because of no rpm drop. 3-4 SHIFT SOL, NO RPM DROP @ 3-4 SHIFT TC-165 45 A5 P 0783 or P0740.
If the torque was locking up and causing a stall problem. The engine may stall as soon as the shifter was moved in drive or reverse. If you would like a copy of the test 45 on pdf file, just send me a pm, with an email address to send it too.
