Default A/C top up

Hi,
I have a 1996 ram van, my a/c gas needs to be topped up, have seen the cans of refill but would like to know if its easy to do, have been told that i do not have to empty the gas first, is this correct....

If the system is working fine but low then adding a can is fairly easy to do. I would get one with the gage so you can see if it is low, correct, or over charged. Also be sure to use the sight glass while charging. Once the freon going through the sight glass goes from a foggy white to clear then it has sufficient charge. Also wear mechanics gloves to protect your hands while doing this for the can may get very cold as it charges up the system.

Default irratic idle

When i turn on the a/c, after about 2 minutes the engine will start runing fast for about 30 seconds then back to normal. This does not happen with a/c off. T
he only thing i have done is about a week ago i topped up the a/c with its correct fluid.

Your IAC valve is sticking. Here's how to clean it: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...n-the-iac.html

Maybe not on the newer vans 98-03 but, yes, on the older ones such as mine and the OP there is. It is built into the top of the dryer. Old technology that has been on Chrysler products since at least the 70's.

Those pics that Stev has posted is not of a carburetor, that "carburetor" looking thing is the throttle body which is the same on your 96 van. Your van is Sequential Fuel Injected being it is a Magnum Series engine.

Sorry just did not look closely, did not also realize that TBI is called Sequential Fuel Injected, thought that was multiport. Glad we have dodge forum..
