Ok...thats a lot of info. Thanks everyone! I am going to print all of this and have the mechanic give it a try. Or try to find a new mechanic. Allora, I live in Texas. The DFW area about 15 minutes from six flags.
I will post the mechanics response.

That's about 1,500 miles too far for my blood.

i also have a 2000 ram van 2500 with a 5.2 and it stalls out. will crank but not start. fuel guage will go to empty. let van sit for 20 minutes will start guage will work and run good for a day or two. called dodge they said ecm was 900. plus programming. are there any good aftermarket ( cheaper ) ecms out there. van not really worth a lot hard to dump a grand in it hoping it will fix it.

If you post the number off the PCM we can help you find a used one. Used ones usually go for under $150 and don't require programming.

I'm glad someone reopened this thread.
Does anyone know what the final resolution was to the lady's original problem??

Just curious.

I'm curious as well, but no, she never posted back as to the final solution. Perhaps it still isn't resolved.

It looks to me like her problem was buying parts from junkyards. When I see problems start out with "my car has problems and my friend who is a shade tree put a PCM from a junkyard in it" I pretty much cringe..... From my experiences this is a bad move to make and she may have made the overall problem worse than it already was.

Well considering that she's a Mom that took in 10 kids to raise and support that weren't her own, I'd say buying from a junkyard to save a few of those hard to come by dollars really isn't something to cringe over. It's the 15-20 year Veteran Techs that ran her in circles and charged her full price for everything that tend to make me cringe.

Thanks Allora!!! I am still driving the van with no working gauges. The shop I was using traded in the original ECM for one that will not work in my van and cannot get it back. They have also stopped trying to fix the van. The van runs ok as long as I don't try to run many errands in it. I have to give it an hour rest between starts. At this point I am going to have to wait until income tax return and then take it into a dealership to be repaired. I will let you know how much they charge me!
Thank you everyone for all your help.
