If transmission is the new one and old transmission had a speed sensor,Black with a clamp and bolt that goes into the extension housing. Then you have the wrong transmission.
I'm not sure I understand the issue.
However if this is just not having a place to mount the speed sensor. My '89 has a speed sensor mounted inline on the speedo cable.
I know it appears very similar to later years that mount the VSS on the tranny and use no cable.

Does your old tranny use OD or not? What does the new 46RE have?

hi steve looked at pdf but its too recent they only show 47 series not 46 pehaps you can anwser this question --// my new trans does not have a speed sensor on the tail shaft my oter one did // what is its funtion // control speedometer--shifting ---overdrive part ?? because i going to put it in today and see what doesnt work or i can swap tail housings
the missing piece that was not on my new trans was a [[ speed sensor ]] it controls your speedometer and cruise control ,. so i took the guts out of the new and used the old houseing and shaft that had the gear on it /////// put it in //every thing works but my key start had to jump w/ screwdriver i checked the neutral safety switch its ok [middle pin goes to ground // today i am going to try to reset the pmc /// one other issue this truck i bought has a alarm system ,,maybe it is disableing the key start or bad ignition switch?
