If transmission is the new one and old transmission had a speed sensor,Black with a clamp and bolt that goes into the extension housing. Then you have the wrong transmission.

I'm not sure I understand the issue.

However if this is just not having a place to mount the speed sensor. My '89 has a speed sensor mounted inline on the speedo cable.

I know it appears very similar to later years that mount the VSS on the tranny and use no cable.

Does your old tranny use OD or not? What does the new 46RE have?

The linked PDF should help you with most of your questions ...

Default thanks trans works 46re --one last problem

the missing piece that was not on my new trans was a [[ speed sensor ]] it controls your speedometer and cruise control ,. so i took the guts out of the new and used the old houseing and shaft that had the gear on it /////// put it in //every thing works but my key start had to jump w/ screwdriver i checked the neutral safety switch its ok [middle pin goes to ground // today i am going to try to reset the pmc /// one other issue this truck i bought has a alarm system ,,maybe it is disableing the key start or bad ignition switch?
