Do you hear the fuel pump when the key is first turned on? Does it have spark when you are trying to crank it?

hi, thanks, well, I believe I am hearing the fuel pump click, I have tried to spray starting fluid into the carb. and I dont get anything, it just cranks...I have replaced all the plugs and wires...I took out plug #1 and looked for spark, found nothing, so I am going to replace the coil...I pulled it off last night and the found the housing cracked in a few places, hoping that is the problem...so we will see

No spark could also be a failure of the Crank Position Sensor. A failed crank sensor will not set any codes.

hi, thanks, well I replaced the coil...it started right up...runs good...one thing though...after about ten minutes of the engine running...the check engine light comes on and stays on, doesnt go off...but when you shut if off, the check engine is off and stays off for about 10 minutes and then comes back on. I have notice no performance problems or idling issues. any clues on what could cause the light to come on. I am going to check the fuel filter, recheck all the connections on the plugs and any vacuum lines that I can see. the only thing I can really think of is that the oil is a little overfilled by 1 quart, it has a V8 the lady at napa told me 6 quarts, so I may have listened to the wrong person.

thanks for the help, let me about the check engine light.

Try the key dance to pull the codes from the PCM. Count the flashes of the "Check Engine" lamp and tell us what the code(s) are.

Key on, key off, key on, key off, key on then count the flashes. Codes are two digits. So for like code 55 (end of codes message) you will have 5 blinks short pause 5 blinks. If you have more than one code then you will have a slightly longer pause between the code sets.

I even tried switching the key off to on several times...nothing...same results. i have tried taking it too several auto part stores to have the codes read...the van is just too old...missing it by one year
