Angry Adjusting the front doors... PIA

K, Obvious dope here. I love my full size b250 van. It's a 1993 and ive wanted one since about then. Is there an easy way to adjust the fron driver side door? Ive got the shop manual for it and the instructions are great, but it just covers the passenger side... I get the fore and aft are adjusted by loosening the bolts on the door hinge. But I have to lift it up. I started taking the entire dash apart and all the molding trying to get at the freakin cowl bolts but there must be an easier way. Door won't latch or close properly unless i slamm it from the outside while pushing up... sorta. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried slightly lowering the latch on the door jamb instead?

Since you say you have to lift up the door you may need a new bottom door hinge. You can find them on ebay.

Thanks all. Mobile, I went to the salvage yard and took a pair of hinges from a slightly newer van and replaced both already. You can see the door is slightly out of line. When I have the door open you can lift up slightly on it. It wiggles a bit. It feels like the nuts on the cowl might be slightly loose. I know they have slightly larger holes than are required so you can adjust them. Just can't figure out how to get to the bloody things without taking apart the entire dash. And Alorro I would lower the latch a bit but when i close the door it actually rubs on the the top of the door opening...

OK, salvage yard again and this time i replaced the latch mechanism. Door closes well but it still rubs as the door sits slightly crooked in the opening. Ive adjusted the hinge to cowl bolts on the bottom and both of the hinge to door bolts but i really need to get at the top hinge to cowl bolts. tried to take apart the dash, trim around the speedo and all of that and i can get access to the opening where the bolts sit but it seems next to impossible to get a socket on them. Any help? Thanks in advance.

How did you get to the bolt the first time when you replaced the hinges?

And did you ever buy new hinges instead of used?

And what year van hinges did you use?

Mobile, I replaced the part attached to the door on the top and bottom last time. Just replaced the full bottom hinge last weekend. I believe it was a 1994 I salvaged them from but the van was mint. Really nice van just sitting there. New door pins at parks auto and it swings free and easy now, just crooked. Ive got the chilton so I get the fore and aft and up and down thing, just can't get at the bloody top hinge to cowl bolts. Lowered the striker so door will close it's just rubbing and sitting lopsided. If you look at it from the driver side it looks like it's been turned about 5 deg to the right. frustrating

I will check my FEM later and see what it may have on getting to those bolts.

Sadly my FSM only tells me how to get to the passenger door upper henge body bolts. Nothing about the drivers side.

Can you buy a socket set that has the built in swivels? Those or a wrench may be your best option.

Thanks Mobile, I think i have the same shop manual. Funny it only tells you how to get at the passenger side. Thats what made me think there was an idiot proof way that was so easy they didn't think they had to put it in the book. Yea, I have a little swivel for the wrench I was playing at getting it on there day before yesterday. A half an hour of swearing and scraping knuckles made me decide there might be an easier way. Guess not, thanks for the reply though
