Unhappy alternator won't charge

have an 81 ram van b150, we have replaced the alternator and regulator, checked all fuses and fusible links, and the alternator is not charging the battery, just draining it. Can someone please help!!! This is our only family vehicle, and we really need it running!!!!

Have you connected a meter to the output of the alternator yet? This can tell you if it's a wiring issue or and alternator/regulator issue.

Then perhaps the replacement alternator or regulator isn't any good.

That is a nice solution. I never thought of putting in an internally regulated alternator if the one internal to the ECM fails.

Is the check engine light illuminated?

Wait a minute, an '81 has an external regulator. I thought the only computerized junk on an '81 was for the lean burn crap.

Color me confused.

In his first post he says that he replaced both the alternator and the regulator. So from the sounds of it, he does have an external regulator; meaning that his solution makes no sense. Now I'm confused right along with you.

This reminds me of when a Liberal calls into a Conservative radio program feigning conservatism just to get his talking point on the table.

GM guy on a Dodge forum just to bust our *****?
