Default What size wrench for top of shocks?

Anyone know what size that flat is on the top of the front shocks? I want to smack a dodge engineer up along side the head for that design.

Are you being serious? Is there some reason you can't walk outside and try a couple of wrenches on yours until you find one that fits?

None of mine fit.. That's the problem. 1/4 is a hair to large. None of my metrics fit it. Was going to buy the correct wrench if I could figure out the size.

It's 6mm, but don't count on being able to get enough torque out of a wrench. What you really need is a shock absorber tool like in this picture. The larger black item goes on first down over the nut. The you insert one of the silver ones into the black one (a portion remains sticking up). Now you can use a larger wrench on the silver one to hold the stem, while turning the black one with a second wrench to loosen the shock nut.

Thanks! I'll have to see if Harbor Freight has anything like that.

Harbor Freight does not have it. Most any auto parts store should have it. If not, there's always Sears.

Are you planning on re using the shocks?

If not, just clamp some vice grips on the shock stem and torque the 1/2 inch lock nut off then main nut off.
Penetrating fluid and a detail sized wire brush are your friends.

You do not need those tools for installation of a new shock.

get a cutting torch and water hose wpend three minutes and cut the shock top off and be done with it. other then that its a 13 mm nut and the vice grips to hold the shock from spinning. ( btw drill a hole in the fender lining and get to it from above thats what the dealer actually does.(note they have a template)

I've already got the new shocks on. Trust me, I'm pretty handy. Just want to torque that upper nut down more than I already have. If it was a matter of a $5 socket of some kind I'd pick it up vs slapping locking pliers on there.
