I am hearing my A/C compressor cycle on/off when I have the climate control dial on the third setting to the right from the OFF position. This is the selection for both Panel+Floor vents.

Should this be? I was under the impression that the compressor was only used for Air Conditioning at the first two dial positions (obviously) and for the Defroster (Defrost+Floor & Defrost Only). The Floor Only position (Heater) definitely does not engage the compressor.

But the middle positions for Panel Only & Panel+Floor should not engage the compressor, right? Panel+Floor does in my van...anyone know why?

 

So you are saying that you have to go through the first two position which engage the A/C unit then once you pass them the A/C should turn off and just the fan should run. In which case sounds like a sticky relay.

 

The compressor runs in all positions except Vent and Floor.
