Default Motor mounts

Hello,

My garage tells me I need 2 new motor mounts to the tune of about $30 apiece (parts from the Dodge dealership, I''m sure) for my 2000 B3500.
(And about 2 1/2 hours labor charge.)

Autozone has motor mounts for about $8.00 apiece.

Other than the $$, what's the difference ?

tnx

The ones that cost eight bucks each are probably made in India and are absolute rubbish. Go with the better ones -- you'll be glad you did.

The Duralast Motor Mount from Autozone will work just fine for what you need. If you want something beefier then I would have them pull out the Energy Suspension book and order up a pair from there. They will cost more then the Stealership/Dealership part, but they will out last them by far.

The Duralast ones are close to equal of what the Stealership/Dealership is trying to sell you, just without all the mark ups. I have used the Duralast one in a work truck (Heavy Farm use) and they hold up just as good as the OEM ones. If it was for a Mud truck, Puller, or show I would use the Energy Suspension ones, they just look so pretty (come in Black or Red) and out last most OEM parts.

You claim an $8 motor mount is equal in materials and workmanship to what the Dealer is selling?

No, he's claiming they're the same and the dealer is raping your *** for the OEM label on theirs.

My point. They are not the same and the comment is completely ridiculous. You won't find "Made in India" stamped on the Mopar mount but you will on the $8 one.

I would also say that anyone who considers paying $30 for an OEM motor mount an "*** rape" is probably a bit of knucklehead.

Why not? I got an OEM T-Stat and its stamped, "MADE IN ISRAEL" (retail $17 w/ discount $7.32)

Picked up a OEM Tension Pulley and its stamped "MADE IN TURKEY" (retail $32 w/ discount $11)

Picked up a OEM Pig Tail repair and stamped "MADE IN CHINA" (retail $62 w/ discount $24)

All bought from dealership, and I could go on and list more but yea I think this goes to show my point.

Funny how that same "knucklehead" word came to me regarding those that think parts are superior simply because they're bought at a dealer. So let me enlighten you a bit...my stepson works at Autozone. According to him, the dealers around here quite often buy parts from Autozone and install them on cars being worked on in their bays. So the only difference to those car owners is the inflated price of the parts, not the quality. More importantly, if the dealer felt the parts were that inferior where they might fail, I doubt they would install them in the first place.

You two are trying so hard to prove me wrong that, incredibly, you still miss my point. I'm not talking about ANY other parts here except for motor mounts. The ones you buy at Autozone for $8.00 each are a substandard product, probably made in India. The ones you buy from Mopar for $30 each are OEM quality and will undoubtedly, unquestionably and absolutely outlast the inferior Autozone product.

But hey if you like the BS product go ahead and install it on your vehicles. In fact, I wish you would.

Fine, then explain why the OEM motor mounts on his van that are only 12-years old have to be replaced? One of my play cars is a 94 Ford Mustang GT Convertible with the original 18-year old motor mounts and they don't have to be replaced. All I'm saying is that OEM does not guarantee better quality, only a higher price.
