Default I'm Buying A Van!

Like I said the time is near. I'm going to see this Van tomorrow. Some of you recommended to get one with the 46RE trans. and the 9.25 Differential. I'm going to crawl under to inspect condition(rust,leaks...) but,,how can I tell for sure if it has the 9.25 rear, any specific marks or anything. Thanks.

Man, I really appreciate all de advice.Thank you so much. So that is a UNIQUE shape to those, right? Just want to be sure. And, what is that tag in the bolt to the right?

Make sure you take off the dog house (the cover inside the van that hides the engine) and examine the engine for obvious issues.

Also, check your transmission fluid levels right away. When I bought mine, the levels were very low and any more driving with low fluid levels would have probably caused unneeded issues. Let the van get to operating temperature and put the van in neutral with the parking break on. Then read the dip stick and see where you're at. Add some ATF+4 fluid as needed. The previous owners of my van obviously didn't keep up with the transmission fluid as most average owners don't. I probably saved the transmission by buying the van from them. Now that I think about it, I saved the entire van buy taking it from them.

Default look for rust

my '01 van had a carpet in the rear, even though it was a work van and not a conversion van... that carpet hid sever rusting problem that apparently many of these vans exhibit around the rear wheel wells... had I seen that before I bought, I might have negotiated down...

look for a build tag under the hood... copy the numbers and look them up as they will tell you what the van has as far as engine and rear end and tranny

Yeah, though it doesn't mention the engine type (5.2L) or the transmission type (46RE).
