Default Slip Yoke Trans Leak

Anybody deal with trans fluid leaking out of the slip yoke fitting?

When I got under the chassis to spray some penetrating oil in preparation for a U joint replacement I noticed that trans fluid is accumulating at the slip joint knuckle. A few months ago, I first noticed a few drops at the underside of the slip yoke / output shaft seal (where it enters the tailshaft) just after the Mopar rebuilt trans was installed. I chalked it up to some post installation drippage. Now that it has continued I'm concerned. Fortunately the trans fluid hasn't noticeably dropped.

I had no leakage at the slip yoke before the trans was replaced.
I wonder if this is somehow tied into the squeal I'm getting which I'm attributing to the U-joints.

Do these slip yokes have weep holes or freeze plugs?
I hear these can cause issues.
Perhaps a bad slip yoke / output shaft seal at the tailshaft, possibly damaged when the rebuilt trans was installed. If the driveshaft is off, is there much involved in replacing the seal at that point?

Thanks all!

Just replace the seal.

Do these slip yokes have weep holes or freeze plugs? Guess I'm gonna have to get the shaft off and take a look.

Took the shaft off. The output shaft seal had slight abrasions/tears on the topside. After taking a better look, diff fluid has really flung off that yoke. I noticed quite a bit of play between the yoke and tailshaft (side-to-side/up-and-down, NOT rotational - the splines are fine). I'm wondering if the shaft bushing was shot in the rebuilt trans which ultimately led to the seal being compromised. I assume the seal was new on the rebuilt trans. The play/worn bushing might account for the squealing I was getting too (turns out the u joints are fine but I'm gonna replace 'anyhow since they've got some age on 'em). Any thoughts on this theory?

I assume the bushing/seal will be covered under the Mopar reburbished parts warranty.

For future reference, Timken's catalong part number for the seal is 7300S
Note, there is a forum post on the 1500 pickup being incorrectly specified as 7300s when it should be 2465, don't think this is an issue here though.

Update.

Guess I should have asked, 'What is a freeze plug on a slip yoke?'. That would've saved me a lot of unnecessary work, $ and grief cause it turns out my slip yoke has one and that's where the ATF was leaking from.

I covered the 'freeze plug', or what is better described as a 'core plug' or 'welch plug' with high temp RTV and problem solved.

here is a thread that has a lot of good info that may help...

There seems like there is a chance your yoke is worn out...probably not but you may want to investigate.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I'll reiterate there is no freeze plug on the tranny. I'm not saying there isn't some kind of plugged hole, I'm just saying there's no freeze plug.

I know this thread is centuries old but for what it’s worth on a 97 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.2L it’s NEITHER of these part numbers it’s actually PART # 4333N which oreilys carries but it’s labled as a “universal/multi purpose seal” they can’t find it by looking up your truck you must have the actual part number....
