An update: I think it may be fixed! The hose finally came in at the parts store, I put it on, and have test driven it several times.
So far no burning heat on that side now. Both sides are equally hot, but what I would call normal hot. Not so hot you'd burn yourself. Not as hot as it was before.
So I believe I"m good to go.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I might have eventually gotten to it myself, but I was frustrated. Sometimes a fresh look gets things going.
