I am actively looking for a used Dodge RAM truck... use the web site below, substituting YOUR VIN# after the = and it may provide you with the build sheet...
not sure how far back in years this works for... but has worked for me for 2007 and up so far...

OK, it was in the sticker on the door jam, GAWR Front is 4000 lbs. The thing under the hood is almost unreadable any more.
Despite being heavy duty, I still have sloppy steering. I guess I will find a shop and see what they say. I looked at doing it myself but it appears to require a lot of special tools to change ball joints.
Looks like that build sheet generator doesn't work for 98's.

GAWR tag shows 3880 front. Does this indicate 4000lb axle?
I've tried running the build sheet but the VIN doesn't work in any of the sites. 284JB25T62K124219

Thanks very much. That VIN was sent to me when I asked for it but now looking for the tag I can see you're correct.
Ordered both sets will return whichever pair I dpn't use and report back.
