Firing order out of sequence?
The top image is how my plug wires are currently installed. The second image is another diagram of the wire placement on a 360ci engine. I went through my normal starting procedure (crank 3 seconds, let off, crank another three seconds), and heard a *cough* (not bad, but noticeable) when I let off the first time. Engine fired up, and ran normally. Am I being **** about this, or should I move each wire one spot clockwise as in the second pic? As I'd said before, I'd changed each wire one at a time from old cap to new, and pretty certain the top pic is how they were. (If it matters, my van had been sitting for a couple of days after the tune-up, from my other post.)

You need to locate the tuiming notches on the crank shaft pulley. When no. 1 cylinder is at TDC, the notch will align with a mark on the front of the crank case. And the wires on my 1994 Ram's distributor match the arrangement in the lower diagram. Therefore your wires might need to be shifted clockwise one unit. Lemme' know if this works for you. 8)
Number 1 should be marked on the cap. Because of the way the cam sensor works, number 1 wire MUST be on that tower. Also, with the distributor turned like that, fuel sync is going to be WAY off. That needs to be set correctly as well.
Line the timing marks up to TDC on the front of the engine and then lift the cap off and see where the rotor is pointing. It will be pointing at 1 or 6. Then you'll know which diagram is correct for you.
A neighbor had a spare Haynes manual, and according to it, my wires are correct (their firing order is the same as the top image). Fired it up this morning, and all is well. Maybe having new parts after 28 years gave it a bit of a fit.
