If by "block blowby" you're testing the piston rings, then that has nothing to do with a leaking plenum gasket.

Here is a picture of the plenum plate on the bottom of the intake.

May have used wrong term! There was a videos on YouTube how to check.By plugging or pvc chk. Can't remember exactly how but that's bout it.creates a suction at Valve cover or something. Its been a few wks.Memory ain't what it used to be! I believe if plenum gasket leaking it effects your vacume then your idle!

With PCV disabled, you should have a little bit of pressure in the crank case. If you still have vacuum, that's a sure sign the plenum is blown.

Right, you disconnect the vacuum hose from the PCV valve, plug the hose and plug the valve. Pullout the dipstick and connect a vacuum gauge to the dipstick tube. Run the engine and the piston ring blowby will build some pressure, but if a vacuum is drawn then the plenum is leaking. This test will not work if you have leaks in the crankcase system anywhere, such as a leaking valve cover gasket, or the grommet the PCV valve sits in, etc..

What is the whining you refered to? I have had an alternator whine for a long time but I thought it was caused from diode's going bad.
