Default van just shuts off

I have a 1991 dodge ram van B250 5.2l engine and when I start my van, it will run for a while and then it will just shut off completely. I used to be able to wait for about 20 seconds before I could start it again, but then it would start doing the same even more frequently until I would have to call a tow truck to get it home. It does not have a crank shaft sensor on the transmission housing bell, and I replaced the alternator because it was not charging the battery. would the eggine control module have anything to do with this, and will I have to replace it ?

Need to find out what's missing when it quits. Are you losing fuel, spark, or both..... Weather permitting, drive with the engine cover off for a while. Next time it quits, check for spark, and see if you are getting fuel.

I see this happened a year ago but it sounds like the Hall Effect Sensor located under the distributor rotor. I had the same issue and a new HES solved it.

No but it has a pickup coil in the distributor that does the equivalent job. Start by replacing that, or the other possibility that comes to mind is a bad ignition coil.
