Default Rear blower works front blower doesn't.

Hi! I'm brand new to this forum!! It's nice to meet y'all!! I just bought my first Dodge Ram 3500 van (1998) and I'm loving it so far!! I've only run into a few issues, but I think that mostly come with an older vehicle. My current problem is my blower. Both front and back worked when I bought the van (but only on high), now only the back works (again, only on high). I tried replacing the blower motor resistor and the connecting cables (because the plug to the resistor looked all burnt out). I still have no front blower though. HALLP!! ❤️❤️

Getting power to the blower motor? Pretty sure the switch provides ground path.

Welcome to DF!

Thanks for the welcome!
I'm not sure what you mean by the switch provides the ground path. Would you please elaborate for me?

With ignition on, there should be power at the fat red wire going to the blower motor. (at least, I think it's red.....) Another wire will run to the resistor block, wherever it happens to be hidden...... and a bunch of wires will run from the resistor block, to the switch. The outgoing lead from the switch just goes to ground, and blower speed is selected by which wire gets grounded.

Thanks! I'll check that out. Upon further investigation my back blower works on all levels. Are there two separate blowers for front and rear?? I haven't gotten my manual in yet, so I'm not 100%

Need a volt-ohm meter, or a test light. Find the blower motor, and there should be a fat red wire going to it. I *think* it is only powered with the ignition on On, or Acc...... With a meter, red lead goes into wire, black lead goes to a good ground. (basically, anything metal.) with a test light, alligator clip goes to ground, stick the pointy end into the connector. Should be battery voltage there (meter) or, the test light should be nice and bright.
