If you pay someone to do it, they likely have the correct parts on the shelf. If you think it may already have been done, there *should* be a label under the hood somewhere, usually on the radiator support, that says as much.
Honestly, until you need to do a major repair to it (ie change the compressor), it probably makes better sense to just have it charged with R12... 134a has higher running pressures and isn't going to be as efficient / effective in your ac system that was designed for r12. I've changed a few of them over myself, not bad to do at all really, but never work quite as well as original and it's not that difficult to find r12 for un- prices these days... at least if you're just talking about filling a system that's leaked a little out over time... Just some thoughts...

I'm sorry! I didn't catch that you lived in Europe (do I understand that correctly) rather than the us. I have no idea what the specific laws are there nor the availability of parts, refrigerants, etc...
