Default Tranny Service

Time for a transmission service. Will replace the filter and fluid in my 02 3.9L w/ the 3 speed auto. Planning to go with Castrol ATF+4 but open minded to other brands. Question; how many quarts will I need to top her off after I pull the pan and replace the filter?

4 to 6 quarts. It varies with how much drips out on you while you are changing the filter. Should adjust the bands while you are in there as well.

Sounds good. Is there a good thread where I can find instructions on how to adjust the bands? FYI, the van only has 13K miles.

I don't know if there is a thread about it, but, I would be surprised if there wasn't a youtube video about it.

Not complex but still scary as I've never done a Transmission band adjustment before. I'll try and video the procedure once I begin the service. Stay tuned!

Found this procedure. Looks pretty easy when watching the video.

Before the tranny service and band adjustment, can someone tell me exactly what tranny I have? My van is a 2002 1500 with the 3.9 and a three speed tranny. The band adjustments are slightly different between transmissions.
