Default 92 B250 Smoking out exhaust, check engine light, violent shake

Well, this has been an adventure.. owned her for a decade, drove her all over the country and had two kids since buying her.. Never did too much maintenance myself, didn't need to. Wel, in the past 4 weeks, the engine mounts failed, which I drove for a week or so before noticing.. replaced them.. then the gearbox seal at the Pitman arm started leaking.. so I said why not.. replaced the Gearbox, drag link, inner outer tie rods, ball joints, both idler arms, hub bearings, rear drum brakes, did alignment.. well.. now.. Ive had smoke from the exhaust for a few days and have been watching the oil level s.. they're good.

Today, the check engine light comes on, the van starts shaking and seems like it doesn't want to go faster than 40 something.. I get her home and hear a squeaky squeal from the front center engine.. fan doesn't seem to have wabble though. Wondering if it's the water pump or radiator.. spent nearly a grand already, can't afford a manual AND the new part this month as I'm a veteran on disability and can't afford taking it to a shop either lol.. sigh.. any help with suggestions? Not looking forward to breaking down fan shroud, fan assembly, water pump.. did that on my husband's 96 Dakota a few years ago and it was tedious.. this snub nose won't be any easier I'm sure.. thanks in advance.

Might try just taking the belt off, and spinning things by hand. Might be an idler, or the tensioner making the noise.

What color is the smoke and what does it smell like? If it smells sweet and it sort of a dirty white, you have an internal coolant leak. If it's black, or in extreme cases, bright white, and smells like gasoline, you're running rich. I'd see what codes are in the computer. You've got at least one since the light is lit. One thing about Chrysler products, you can do the key dance and see the codes without a scanner.

Default So.. a little update..

It was the alternator that was causing some of the issues.. van lights dimmed and the van finally came to a stop on a dirt road. Lucky I was able to hitch a ride and get a replacement, and fix on the side of the road. It ran great for a few days.. But.. now, there's a whining again, smells like a rubber or electric issue, idling up and down, high idle in all gears trying to shoot me forward/backward as so as it has caught a gear. I've put so much time and money into it the past 40 days, between replacing all the steering, suspension, al new tires and now alternator.. I can't stop now, she's nearly new externally lol

But she's definitely giving me a run for my money, and patience.

Default I did the key on, off code read..

It pulled a 1-2-5-5.. so it is saying battery disconnected.. but it's not and hasn't been other than to put in the new alternator a few days ago.. Could this new alternator be bad.. it is loud whining right at the alternator.

I would hope you disconnected the battery to change the alternator.... That, and it's the last 50 ignition cycles...... So, both those codes should be considered normal.

What are your current symptoms?
