By example, if the crank position is unknown, that will throw a code P0320 (11)

You may be right on OBD II. I was thinking OBD I.

I am not sure what criteria the PCM uses to decide on sensor or the other isn't working.... I would think that if it is getting a signal from one, but, not the other, that *should* set a code..... You would think... but, it's been my experience that the PCM isn't real discerning on what codes it should be handing out...... even on the OBDII fellers.

I was doing some research and it seems that throwing a code is related to the crankshaft position being unknown, and not to do with the status of the crankshaft sensor itself, per se.

The criteria to throw OBD1 code 11 / OBD2 code P032 is crankshaft position unknown during engine start up cranking. Of course, if it was a partially working sensor, it may not trigger a code... if that's possible.

But the OP says no code. OP says that it, "sometimes stalls when driving" as the chief complaint, followed by having to wait for several minutes (I assume after it has been running) for the engine to be restarted. The stalling issue makes me wonder how the alternator is doing. The hard to restart after warmed up makes me think MAP sensor.
