2000 Dodge Ram Van 3500 5.9 L

I was trying to get my check engine light to turn off, so I could pass California smog, so I could complete the registration of my van. My mechanic told me the computer was throwing these codes for the C.E.L.:

P1756 Governor press not equal to target @35-40 psi

P1762 Governor Pressure sensor offset voltage too high or low

I bought the kit from E-bay, and replaced the Governor Pressure Sensor Solenoid, and the Governor Pressure Sensor Transducer. Now, the C.E.L. has remained off, but when I returned to the smog check place, they asked “did you disconnect the battery or something? The sensors haven’t reset yet.” They said I need to drive the van around, at different speeds, even possibly “run the air conditioning” or something. I drove it around for about a week, took it back to smog, and they said the sensors still hadn’t reset yet. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this happen?

Also, let it be said, I’m afraid that when the sensors do “reset,” the C.E.L. will come back on, and I’ll be right back where I started.

 

Are the codes still present? Did you clear them after changing parts?

 

1. Turn on the ignition to ON, but do not start the engine.
2. The check engine light will turn on for 15 seconds.
3. After 15 seconds, one of two things will happen.
   1. If the MIL flashes for 10 seconds, and then returns to being fully illuminated, the OBDII sensors are NOT READY and you need to complete the drive cycle.
   2. If the MIL does not flash and remains fully lit, you are ready to go.

If it's not ready then perform this Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge Drive Cycle.

Before doing the drive cycle, first make sure the check engine light (MIL) is off.

Idle for 5 minutes
Warm engine up for five minutes
Smoothly accelerate and maintain a speed between 40 to 60 mph for 8 minutes.
Stop and idle for 3 minutes.
Smoothly accelerate and maintain a speed above 20 mph for 2 minutes.
Turn key off, leave off for ten minutes

After doing the drive cycle you should be good to go for the testing.

 

I've driven it over 700 miles since I changed the parts in the transmission, and for a third time now, the smog place says that the sensors are not ready. I've driven fast, slow, street, freeway, all sorts of situations. I will try to do the Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge cycle exactly as you have described, and see if that makes it work. Thank you!
